What is the Employer Responsibilities Regarding Work at Height?

a) ensuring the implementation of the protective measures established in this Standard;

b) ensuring the performance of the Risk Analysis and, when applicable, the issuance of the Work Permit;

c) developing operational procedures for routine work at height activities;

d) ensuring a prior assessment of the conditions at the work site at height, through the study, planning, and implementation of applicable additional safety actions and measures;

e) adopt the necessary measures to monitor compliance with the protective measures established in this Standard by contractors;

f) provide workers with up-to-date information on risks and control measures;

g) ensure that any work at height begins only after the protective measures defined in this Standard have been adopted;

h) ensure that work at height is suspended when an unforeseen risk situation or condition is detected, the elimination or immediate neutralization of which is not possible;

i) establish a system for authorizing workers to work at height;

j) ensure that all work at height is performed under supervision, the form of which will be determined by a risk analysis according to the specific characteristics of the activity;

k) ensure the organization and archiving of the documentation required by this Standard.

Fall Protection System:

Therefore, this system must:

a) be appropriate for the task to be performed;

b) be selected based on a Risk Analysis, considering not only the risks to which the worker is exposed, but also additional risks;

c) be selected by a qualified occupational safety professional;

d) be strong enough to withstand the maximum applicable force anticipated during a fall;

e) comply with national technical standards or, in their absence, with applicable international standards;

f) have all its elements compatible and subjected to a systematic inspection.
